Creating artwork is a passion… marketing artwork can be overwhelming!....... So the Creative Art Co-op brings traffic to look at Artwork five days a week as well as the first Friday evening of every month. We hope to be open other evenings if there becomes the demand.
Part of our mission is advancing our voice.
“Finding ones own creativity seems to be a
positive, non threatening way of
finding our own voice”.
The Art Gallery was established in 1990 at the Rochester Psychiatric Center as one of several galleries created across New York State to provide an opportunity for talented artists to display their work. In 1999, the MHC accepted sponsorship of the gallery.
The Art Gallery is an art collection which promotes the sale of artwork created by artists who have a mental health diagnosis. Our Art Gallery also has “ eight satellite sites” in the community. Currently our Gallery has over 200 pieces of Art being shown throughout the Rochester community.
Trainings & Workshops
Part of our mission is to empower people. We provide this through trainings and workshops presented by peers to create excellence and success on all levels of recovery. Peers training peers in their areas of expertise has proven to be of benefit to all trainings and workshop attendees.
The CWC works daily to change the misconception of mental illness through public presentations. One of the best ways we have found to educate the community about the reality of mental illness and gain their understanding and respect is being positive role models ourselves.
In many ways we are a connecting link to the community for individuals and the mental health system.
Weekly Support Groups
Our groups provide a safe and supportive environment in which people can actively address their symptoms with others who are also working to overcome similar issues who are working on recovery. It is our wish and desire that they will find strength, hope, and friendship from our support groups.
The CWC increases awareness and involvement by disseminating information through our Bulletin Board Project, our
monthly Newsletter, our Website and our Newsletter Boxes located in local neighborhoods.
Bulletin Board Project
was developed as a means of information dissemination. “Information Liaisons” post CWC information on ulletin boards in area human services agencies. Currently, there are 26 bulletin boards in the community. Our liaisons are responsible for talking to individuals at their sites about the CWC recovery-oriented programs and self-help personal growth and recovery opportunities.
In the Resource Library , you will find videos, books, monthly publications consisting of legislative articles, peer recovery stories, upcoming events, workshop information, and breaking news about mental health issues.

Mission
The Creative Wellness Coalition promotes empowerment through advocacy, education, training and advancing the consumer voice.
Have you ever said that you disliked a certain food that you had never tried, based only on the way it looked, or what you had heard of it? Did you find out later, after trying it, that it was really quite good?
It is easy for people to do this with other people. For years, many people have placed a stigma on those in our society who have experienced mental health problems. This has been done with little or no contact, involvement, or facts about mental illness or those in the mental health community.
The Creative Wellness Coalition works daily to change that through public presentations and our newsletter, the Community Forum. We hold workshops and seminars for our members, designed to help improve leadership, presentation and social skills. We identify consumer perspectives through surveys, focus groups and bulletin boards. That information is used in advocating for improvements within the mental health system. Educational programs and trainings about systems issues are offered as well.
Our members grow to become informed, confident advocates who work together to raise awareness of their abilities, accomplishments, and perspectives to improve the mental health system, and promote acceptance and understanding in society.
